Aluminas manufactured at the Tucson facility are sold throughout the world for high tech applications including synthetic crystal growth, high purity and ultra-high purity ceramics for semi-conductor processing, bio-ceramics, ceramics for translucent lighting components and other specialty applications. Aluminas are also used in fluorescent lamp coatings, aluminate phosphors, luminescent materials, specialty abrasives, reinforcement, and scratch-resistant products.
We produce both high purity and ultra-high purity calcined alumina products in gamma or alpha crystalline phase. Calcined aluminas with purities up to 99.999% are available unmilled or as dry milled powders with particle size distributions ranging from 0.25 to 5.0 microns. Developmental wet milled alumina slurries filtered to less than one micron with median particle diameters as small as 100nm are also available.
The ultra pure alumina production, calcinations, and milling capabilities in Tucson compliment the specialty aluminum alkoxide process technology employed at plants in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and Brunsbuttel, Germany, and enable Sasol’s Inorganics Division to offer exceptional quality aluminum oxide products tailored to customer requirements.
